Question:

Are there any specific rules when it comes to wearing belts?

Thank You

Answer:

When it comes to wearing belts you can throw all of the rules out the window!

What I love about belts is that they are so multi-functional. One day a belt can be holding up your pants, and the next it can be used as a fabulous addition to a dress!

I generally find that when adding a belt to an outfit, you want to make sure that the belt does not take away from the outfit itself. You can avoid this by using this general rule of thumb: When wearing a neutral outfit, add a pop of colour with your belt, and, when wearing a colourful outfit, use a neutral belt to tone it down. If you’re wearing a belt over a dress or sweater and are ever in doubt about where the belt should rest, just use your natural waistline.

Right now, we have a huge array of belts, from skinny to chunky and neutral to colourful at all of our boutiques!

Question:

I am going to my great niece’s Bat Mitzvah in Washington DC in June. It is a late afternoon service followed by dinner and dancing. I have been told that the attire is something between what one would wear to a synagogue service (including covered shoulders, etc.) and a Saturday evening party (not black tie). Any suggestions to help me pick the right dress.

Answer:

Hi There,

There are quite a few outfit options that you could wear to this type of event! Nicole Miller often has dresses that are the perfect middle ground, slightly conservative but also fun for the afternoon party portion. I would suggest looking for a dress with a little cap sleeve or something sleeveless with a higher neckline that you can wear with a cardigan or blazer. You can have fun with your jewellery and shoes to add a little punch to the outfit! As another option, you could also wear a beautiful blouse paired with a great skirt. Either would be completely appropriate. We have tons of options in the store right now!

I would love to set up an appointment at our Avenue Road location to give you my undivided attention in helping you find a outfit for your nieces bat mitzvah. I can be reached through email or by phone at the Avenue Road location. If this location is not convenient for you, I can absolutely refer you to another one of our fantastic Stylists at our Yonge St., Richmond Hill or Oakville locations. Just let me know which location works best for you and I will let her know!

Question:

Hey there!
I have a question regarding pencil skirts for my height (5′2-5′3). I bought several woolen pencil skirts from a petite section, but they all seem long as they hit me at my mid-calf.

Can you advise me as to where they should be hitting me and also if you know of any good tailors in OAKVILLE where I can get my skirts hemmed?

Thanks!

Answer:

Hello!

Great question – Skirt hemlines rise and fall with the trends and seasons but more importantly, where you wear your hem is a very personal thing. Women who are petite tend to prefer a shorter skirt (above the knee) but that doesn’t mean you can’t try out the current “Mad Men”-inspired knee-length or below-the-knee or even calf-length pencil skirt. The trick is to lengthen the look by wearing tights/hosiery in the same colour and extending the hue into the shoe. So if you were to wear a below-the-knee black pencil skirt, pair it up with black opaque tights and a black boot or pump. It also helps if the heel is quite substantial.

That being said, a good seamstress is invaluable for petites. I have been working with a talented seamstress in Oakville on a personal and professional level for many years. Her name is Elisabeth Babarci and she works out of a home studio, allowing for private appointments and a comfortable environment. She is located not far from our Oakville boutique. To set up an appointment with Elisabeth, call 905-844-7701 and mention that Want referred you.

Another option you have is to come and visit me at our boutique and we can find looks that work with your new pencil skirts. I am comfortable with pinning to show you how different tops can allow for different hemlines. Sometimes stepping a little out of your box can be an adventure!

Hope this helps – Thanks!

Question:

Do you carry any semi-formal dresses in plus size. I’m in need of a dress and am a size 16-18

Answer:

Hi there!
We do carry some dresses up to size 16 at Want. The most popular designers available in these sizes are Tadashi and Basix. If you see a dress that we carry but you do not see the size you are looking for, there is always the option of placing a special order!
With special orders we will get in touch with the designer, and if the style you are interested in is available in your size, we can bring it in, however all Special Orders must be pre-paid, and are a final sale.

Special Orders usually take about 2 weeks to arrive to the store. It is important to know what size you need because once the dress is ordered you must take it. If you choose to go this route, I would suggest coming into one of our boutiques and trying on dresses by the same designer in roughly the size that you need so that we will have a pretty accurate idea of the size you are looking for!

Question:

Hello. I am a bridesmaid at my brother’s wedding this coming May in Brazil. Brazilian wedding custom is different than North America for bridesmaids, where the girls don’t have to wear the same dress. The only requirement is that the girls wear a long dress.

Do you have a long dress, preferably in yellow (the wedding color), that is fancy enough, but also appropriate for a beach wedding? I am the sister of the groom, his only sister!

Thanks!

Answer:

A wedding in Brazil………sounds amazing! Bridesmaids wearing different dresses is something we’re seeing a lot of in Canada too! Maybe Brazil is setting the trend ;)

Want carries a variety of gowns at all times, and more so during the upcoming months (January – March). Although we haven’t specifically ordered any in yellow, we are able to special order dresses through our vendors. Currently in store we do have a couple of gowns in yellow that would be suitable for a beach wedding, one is actually on sale! Another thing you can do is visit the website of one of our leading gown designers La Femme, you’ll be able to look through tons of dresses that we can potentially order for you!

Question:

Do you carry just small sizes or do you have things for size 14+

Also, I missed it this morning on BT but I think I heard something about fashions from MadMen?? Do you have something that would look like its from the 1960’s? What are your price ranges?

Answer:

Hi There,

The sizes we carry in the store tend to depend on the items you are looking at. For separates (ie. Pants, tops, skirts etc.) we usually carry XS to XL or sizes 0 through to 12, sometimes 14. Dress sizes really depend on the designer you are looking at. In Tadashi, we usually carry up to a size 14 however, in this designer, we can special order items that are larger sizes.

The 1960’s/ Mad Men look is really trendy for this year. There are a few items by certain designers that really tend to fit into this style. There is a gorgeous red gown by Basix which is very reminiscent of the 1960’s as well as a few different day dresses by Dina Ba-rel and Rebecca Taylor that would fit into that specific style.

We have a very wide price range throughout the store. Again it really depends on the items you are looking at. We have tops that start at around $50.00 and go up to over $300; pants tend to be around the $180.00 to $300.00 range as well; and a 3 piece suit can start around $800.00. Our dresses tend to have the widest range. There are dresses that start at $120.00 and some that go up to $1,800.00.

Question:

Can short people wear tall knee high boots? Or should we go for a short boot? I’m under 5 ft and find boots with a skinny heel uncomfortable and I can’t balance too well. Also can anyone wear a skinny belt?

Answer:

Hi there,
I can totally appreciate your dilemma. I too, am short (5’3”) and I salivate everytime I see someone wearing an over-the-knee boot. But I keep reminding myself that just because the tall boot is what’s in fashion right now, it doesn’t mean it’s right for my body type.

With a MILLION styles out there for the picking, you can definitely find a boot that will be the perfect “fit” for your height. I would suggest a boot that comes up to right under your knee. Because you’re petite, you don’t want to cut your body into the wrong proportion. Keep it elongated by wearing a legging or skinny jean with a tall boot, usually all one colour (black preferably). You also asked about the short boot. Again, I caution you against getting a boot that will cut off your vertical line. If you choose to go short, purchase a boot that hits you at the ankle, not the mid-calf.

Second part of your question was regarding the skinny belt. To be quite honest, no, not everyone can wear a skinny belt. When shopping for a belt, here’s a tip – always mimic your body. If you’re slim and petite, then you can wear a skinny belt. If you have a larger bone structure, do a wider belt. Want sells an AMAZING variety of belts, from skinny to wide, to corseted!
Thanks for your question & I hope this helps!

Question:

Hello,

I was wondering if you carry Wildfox V-neck T-shirts.

Thanks

Answer:

Hello! Thanks very much for your question.
I love the Wildfox line that recently came to all of our stores! We have an amazing selection, from T-shirts to long-sleeve cozy sweaters. The fabric is rayon/spandex/poly blend and it feels like heaven! So soft and super cute!
With regards to your request we currently have one style of a V-neck T-shirt. This style is a boxy fit with the logo “LOVE” across the bust! Another T-shirt that we carry is a crew neck with the logo “JE T’AIME”. We also carry three styles of sweaters. Here are a couple of images for you, to help with your decision!

Question:

Hi!

I’ve been direly trying to track down a Tadashi dress I saw and absolutely fell in love with… I found your boutique on Tadashi’s website and I was wondering if you might have it? (Or something similar, perhaps?)

It’s from his Fall 2010 collection–on the site it’s tagged TD90267L. I’d found it across the border on Nordstrom’s site listed as “Tadashi Shoji Chiffon Overlay Gown” but they’ve gone out of stock on the colour I was looking for. Plus, I’m not sure I’m small enough for the sizes they had stocked. :)

Do you happen to carry it in any of your stores? I’m looking primarily for the ivory colour, size 12 or larger.

If you don’t, do you happen to have anything else similar, from Tadashi or another designer?

Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it!

Answer:

Hi there,
I have checked on the dress that you are inquiring about — it is a stunning dress by the way!!!

We do have it in our stores right now. We call it the Tadashi “Nicole Kidman Gown” because she wore something very similar to a red carpet event. At the moment I have sizes 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14 in stock in navy blue. I can check with Tadashi to see if we can special order this dress for you in ivory however with a special order, once we know that it is available, you must come in to pre-pay, and like all of our special occasion wear, it will be a final sale.
I would suggest coming into the store to try on this dress so you can get an idea about your size. We do carry A LOT of Tadashi dresses – both cocktail length and gowns. It would also be worthwhile trying on some other Tadashi designs because right now we have a BOGO (buy one get one half off) on everything in the store!

Question:

Im looking for a trendy outfit to wear for our staff xmas party! Were going to a casual restaurant and second city improv show in toronto.. Then drinks after… Jeans with boots maybe i was thinking? anything you can suggest. thanks.

Answer:

Hi There!
You’re definitely in luck because we have SO much great holiday & party wear in our stores right now – both fancy and more casual.
What I would suggest for your evening of dinner, improv and drinks is a dark denim jean by either Rich and Skinny or David Kahn paired with a great going-out top by either Sky (fantastic beaded embellishments) or Bailey (trendy & comfortable cuts) and some sort of wrap or jacket.
Right now we’ve got a great leather blazer by Ted Baker that is perfect for layering, as well as some Line wraps that look fantastic over a dress, fancier top or, if you want to stay really comfortable, they even help to dress up a plain old t-shirt!
